Measuring opacity and particulate matter

25 February 2020, Published under Cement News

With cement production being a potential source of several hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) that are subject to strict regulations to protect human health and the wider environment, AMETEK Land talks technologies available for the monitoring of smoke and dust emissions from the process. By Derek Stuart, AMETEK Land, UK. Figure 1: interactions between light and particles Among the most obvious of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), as it is readily visible by eye, is particulate matt...

Rebuilt to last

Rebuilding aging ESPs can help to significantly improve their operational efficiency and bring dust emissions back in line with statutory requirements. By Rico Chen, Sasza Chyntara, Willy Stevanus and Nga Nguyen, Tai & Chyun Associates Industries, Taiwan, and Nguyen Kien Trung, Cong Thanh Group, Vietnam. Electrostatic precipitators remain one of the most efficient dedusting technologies available Despite its long history and the arrival of more advanced solutions, the electrosta...

EU reaches agreement on stricter air pollution limits

20 September 2016, Published under Cement News

The European Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on a directive to reduce emissions of air pollutants on 30 June 2016. The new National Emissions Ceiling Directive (NECD) sets stricter national limits on the emissions of several hazardous pollutants, including SO2, NO x and fine particulates and aims to cut the number of premature deaths from air pollution by around half across member states. The time horizon is from 2020 to 2029 and from 2030 onwards. ...

Air emissions reduced

30 January 2012, Published under Cement News

Saudi Arabia is improving its environmental record by enforcing stricter emissions targets for cement producers. Many of the older plants are modernising their dust control technology. Eastern Cement recently invited FLSmidth to reduce its particle emissions and increase its filter efficiency by installing two new fabric filters on two of its kiln lines and by converting two ESP units into bag filters for the alkali bypass system. Dr Ahsen Hussain, FLSmidth A/S Airtech – Air Pollution Contr...
